Maryland's 5th Congressional District
Our economy is driven by the hopes, dreams and sweat of the American people. It is only because of their individual efforts that new products are invented, markets opened, and jobs created. When left free to operate they are the real engines that create new growth, jobs and prosperity.
Recent actions by our Congress provide all the evidence we need that as an institution, they cannot be trusted to act in our best interest. Behind closed doors they will trade their vote for billions in pork barrel spending, slip in secret amendments to benefit special interests in the dead of night, vote on bills they have not read and give themselves a pay raise when the citizens they serve are losing their jobs.
There is no point in tinkering around the edges of health care reform if there is no interest in dealing with the root causes of the problem. We certainly shouldn't take any course of action that will increase costs, decrease quality or ration what is left of our health care system.
As a nation of immigrants we are strengthened by the diversity of peoples, cultures and religions that arrive daily on our shores to make us the United States of America. That is why I am a strong supporter of common sense, legal immigration policies that will require new immigrants to fill out the proper paper work and wait their turn for approval to enter this great country.
Marriage is the union between a man and a woman for the purpose of living together as husband and wife during their joint lifetime.
I believe that life begins at conception. I believe that the life of the unborn is just as sacred and unique as the life of those who are already born. I believe that the unborn are deserving of the same opportunity for life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, as you or me.
In the recent Supreme Court case of District of Columbia v. Heller, the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Its ruling settled the question of whether the bill of rights grants you and me the personal liberty to keep and bear arms for our own defense in the affirmative.

The problems confronting our nation are real, longstanding and serious, but they have been ignored by our current Congressman, Steny Hoyer. Despite having nearly 30 years of experience in Congress he has allowed these problems to fester and grow. He dismisses our concerns and dictates to us what he will and won't do for us.
Now we are confronted by problems so severe and destructive that they threaten to do what no foreign army has ever done…defeat the will of the American people.
It is clearly time for us to choose new leadership.
In this next election you will have an opportunity to send a Republican to Congress who is not afraid to stand on principle, apply common sense solutions to our long standing problems and govern within the authority of our Constitution.
